Fort Denison

Hello everyone,

Hope you are all well. Whilst I was walking over the bridge the other day, I continue to marvel at Sydney Harbour. What a magnificent harbour it is, Praise be to God! Then as the ferries goes past, you notice Fort Denison.  It made me think back to when I was a student in Primary School, in which you learn about the history of Fort Denison.  It is located on Port Jackson. I believe it was a convict penal society. Then it was used to defend Sydney against vessels from foreign waters leading into WWII. For more information please refer to Wikipedia.

As I said, the last time I was at Fort Denison,  I was in Primary School, no doubt many of you are in the same boat, you know what I mean. So here are some photos to remind you of the place commonly referred to as Pinchgut.

Go the Fort!

It looks out of place in Port Jackson, but it has serve'd it's purpose

How about that Quarantine Station at Manly, what a view!

G’day

I had the pleasure of going to the Old Quarantine Station at Manly the other day. i had to visit my brother and his wife down from the Gold Coast. It is now called the Q Station. It is well worth going there. The view is sensational, looking at the Sydney CBD, the harbour and of course Manly.

They have done it up and made it into a hotel and conference centre. The restaurant is well worth the trip, superb food. There is a museum retracing the history of the place, with many old artefacts, such as old head stones. For more information, please go to Wikipedia.

Hopefully my photos will encourage you to check it out.

Good way to get around Sydney, sure beats traffic.

There was a variety of views

Imagine waking up to this view everyday.

Praise God for our harbour.

You have got ot love those old chimneys.

The Sydney Opera House, what an amazing design.

G’day,

Having walked over the Harbour Bridge with my friend from NZ, we decided to head for the Sydney Opera House. As my photos of the Sydney Harbour Bridge showed, it was an awesome sunset. Praise be to God. The Opera House has always intrigued me.   Jorn Utzon’s  design was amazing. sadly there was much angst between him and the Cahill Government. For more information on the Sydney Opera House, please refer to Wikipedia.

I don’t know if it is true, but I was told that the Opera House is sinking 1mm each year, probably just an urban myth. Even if true, by my calculations, it will sink 1m in 1000 years. So we won’t need to worry about it. However, in God’s Kingdom on earth, that might be a different prospect. It was a spectacular sunset looking back to the bridge and the CBD. But there was a glow about the Opera house as well. I recalled to my friend how I once sat in the front row  of the main auditorium to listen to Handel’s Messiah. It was a great night.

All in all, We had a great walk and saw the best sunset of the Bridge I have ever experienced.

Enjoy the photos.

Good one, Jorn

Come on ferry, out of the way.

That's better.

Go the P & O. How's that for a cruise?

Impressive!

The Sydney Harbour Bridge sets its own sunset

G’day,

Living out of Sydney, it is not often I get to see a sunset on Sydney Harbour. One day in the holidays, I took a friend of mine from NZ. The Sydney Harbour Bridge is eighty years old next year. What an amazing structure. It just goes to show you what mankind can do when they work together as a team. sadly a number of men lost their lives in the construction of the bridge. The following information provided by Wikipedia is fascinating. From such humble beginnings, it has grown, with the Opera House to be the icon of Sydney. I must say the Sunset was sensational!! We could not have asked for better.

If you would like to find out more information about the Sydney Harbour Bridge, please check it out on  Wikipedia – Fascinating stuff.

How good is that!

And again!!

Praise God, an awesome sunset.

Caught between a rock and a hard place.

G’day,

I hope you are all well.

Have you ever been in a situation where you have had to choose between two options? Both options are appealing but you can only have one. In all my adventures, I have not had to make this choice. When you are confronted with this dilemma, it is difficult because which ever way you choose, someone else could get hurt. That is the last thing you want to do. So many a good night sleep have been ruined when these choices are thrust upon you. The best way that I have found to help me out of these situations is to pray to our Heavenly Father and read His word. It also helps to have good advice from your good friends. My mind has been befuddled with both options. It has been doing my head in. It reminds me of the saying ‘ Caught between a rock and a hard place. ‘ I have always wondered where this phrase came from. If you want to know, look it up on Wikipedia.

There you have it. I thought I had it tough. I look forward to when I can move away from the rock and the hard place.

Seeing two pelicans in Pelican, now that is cool!

G’day,

Who loves pelicans? I think they are fascinating creatures. Praise be to God! To watch them eat fish is a fun experience. I have seen this but unfortunately I do not have photos. So when I drove to a place called Pelican, near Swansea on the Central Coast, it was a surprise for me to see two pelicans. Maybe there is no better place to see pelicans? The lake was beautiful and the pelicans are always a joy to watch. Throw in a spectacular sunset, what a pleasurable afternoon. There are many spectacular spots on the Central Coast. I am looking forward to checking them out. Have a look at this photo. One thing I have learnt to do is watermack the photos – there I go again, not watermack but watermark the photos. I found a software package that adds text, resizes and even adds a watermark. my web mentor came up with an even better idea. He found a plug in that added the watermark automatically. Please check out this photo.

God did all the hard work, I just pressed the button! (putting text on a photo)

Hey guys,

Now for the second task – how to put text on a photo in a certain spot. Although I had learnt to put a caption and a watermark on my photo, I did not know how to move my text around the photo. I needed an image to do this. I searched some of my photos and found one that was suitable for the task. Now that I know how to crop a picture, this was my first step. Job done, now it was time to put my caption on. Using a photo resizer, I did this fairly easy. Unfortunately it was not in the correct spot. So I tried to use the space key, no chance! I decided to adjust the cropping in order to move the cropped picture up – I wanted the text to stay where it was and move the picture up. I wanted to center the text but I was out by about a centimetre. I asked my mentor for a ruler, he said he did not have one. He was puzzled why I wanted a ruler. In fact, even though he knew using a ruler was a waste of time, he even went into the other room to get one. He was adamant that he did not have one. I guess I would have to estimate. After all that, there was a tape measure right in front of my mentor. I think he gave it a boy’s look instead of a girl’s look, as my Mum would always say. My mentor gave me the tape measure. After the event, I realised that he gave me the tape measure but he knew that by having a tape measure, it was not going to solve the problem. Now we were talking. I tried a number of times to line it up. Talking about frustrating! This was not working. I think my mentor was thinking to himself ‘ I told you so ‘ It then occurred to me, what was this XY Offset button? We started fiddling with it. Now we were cooking with gas. It was getting closer. I could see the text starting to line up but still no real joy. The text looked like it was getting better, it was centred but too big. Finally in conjunction with my mentor, I had made it the correct font size but it was still slightly off. A few more adjustments and there you have it – success. Please write and tell me what you think about my picture.
